Things to remember

Before discussing the steps required to do this in detail, it’s important that you first understand how different external sound devices work with your PC or laptop.

Checking out features and specs beforehand

Every single audio device which is compatible with Windows offers various specs and features for audio.

Unlike what the majority of audiophiles believe, your device’s sound card isn’t the only thing you need to check to fix your audio device.

Moreover, there’s isn’t much difference between the audio output and your wireless headphones.

Checking out the HDMI and GPU

Other devices such as your HDMI and GPU also fall under the category of audio devices.

As HDMI transmits audio and video data, at times, it simply doesn’t function as Windows selects HDMI-out as its primary audio device.

However, the same is not the case with monitors that are equipped with built-in speakers.

Looking for DAC

Coming back to audio devices, once you insert them in your USB headsets, a different sound device gets identified in Windows.

And the sound doesn’t bypass the soundcard. Headsets come with a mini sound card are known as DAC.

Therefore it’s quite apparent, that if your system has enough processing power, it is possible to transfer audio streams within different sound devices separately.

Allocating sound devices to apps and programs

To allocate different devices to various apps and programs, and allow certain apps to work through headsets and some via your external speakers, you need to follow the steps listed below.

  1. The first thing you need to do is listen to the sound of the required application from the external speakers.
  2. For this, what you need to do is turn it off and play it again.
  3. Moreover, if you are not able to view the same app listed in the menu, it is better to turn on audio playback first.
  4. Once your desired apps are correctly assigned, what you need to do is shut down the Window.
  5. And when you want to reset these settings, simply press the Reset button.

Alternative Method

The method we have shared above is for those apps that you want to play separately on your speakers and headsets.

However, if you want the same audio to play on your headset and speakers simultaneously then the method won’t be the same that we have shared above.

You need to opt for a different method which is usually preferred by sound mixers and artists to check the sound quality beforehand.

For this you need to follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Firstly, click on the icon of the speaker situated below the notification bar, and go to Sounds.
  2. Choose the recording tab.
  3. Next, tap on Stereo Mix, and choose Enable to activate it. Press back Stereo Mix and choose properties. Now choose Listen tab.
  4. Select the Listen option.
  5. Below the playback, a list will appear to activate your current headset.
  6. Press OK.

Syncing your devices together

Once you have completed the steps mentioned above, now the track that’s on the external speakers will start to play from your headsets.

However, make sure that based on your system’s hardware, you can experience a noticeable lag in the audio of your headset and speakers.

Therefore, if you are experiencing a delay in the sound coming from your headset and speakers.

Then it means that both devices are not in sync with each other. In such cases, what you need to do is tweak the default settings and the sound will play simultaneously.

In most cases, you need to change the software settings which requires a lot of time and expertise to perform.

However, if you don’t have enough experience or don’t know how to change the default software settings, then you can still fix the poor synchronization by simply using a splitter.

Using a splitter

A splitter is a device that helps to connect various external devices such as a headset to your laptop or desktop computer which has a single port for connecting external devices.

Using these splitters, you can also connect dual headsets with a single jack.

This method comes real handy while traveling when you want to watch a video with someone on the same device such as a laptop or tablet.

But here, there are external speakers in place of headphones.

Once you want to use your headsets, all you need to do is increase the sound levels of your external speakers and wear your headset.

If they are in sync with sound controls, then it means that they will play the audio simultaneously.

And when your laptop or tablet comes with only one headphone output, this method will help you listen to your favorite music seamlessly.

To Sum Up

In this post, we shared some simple methods through which you can easily play music through your how you headset and speakers simultaneously. Although this is a fool proof method and you don’t have to do any changes or modifications in it. However, you may occasionally have to tweak up the method a bit. For example, you may need to update your pre installed drivers or software. If you have replaced your old pair of headset with a new one, then it’s mandatory to make changes accordingly.
